John Tucker

John Tucker is a long-time enthusiast, athlete, and coach of Track & Field. In his first season of helping the Southern Virginia University Knights, Tucker helped guide 9 Conference point-scoring throw performances on the men’s team and 4 Conference point-scoring throw performances on the women’s team, including a conference champion.
 
Previously, Tucker coached Track & Field / Cross Country at Washington and Lee University (W&L) for over 20 years. Teams and individuals under his tutelage garnered numerous All-Conference, Conference Champion, All-Region, Region Champion, National Qualifier and All-American achievements. School records were regularly set and broken by athletes he coached, and several still stand today.
 
For his efforts in guiding these teams and individuals, Tucker was recognized as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and South/Southeast Regional Coach of the Year over half a dozen times.
 
As a student-athlete, Tucker was a four-year letter winner and record holder of the W&L track & field team.    A sprinter and twice team captain, he was recognized his last two years for overall excellence and sportsmanship.  Tucker flourished as an athlete over age 40, winning multiple local, state, and regional events, and was the 2000 USATF National Masters Champion in the M-50 pentathlon which includes the Long Jump, Javelin, 200 meters, Discus, and 1500 meters.
 
He and his wife, Sandra, reside in Lexington, VA.
