Jeramie Murray joined the Southern Virginia University Track & Field staff in the summer of 2022. Since his arrival, the men's and women's teams have been dominant forces amongst their conference and regional opponents and have steadily improved at the national level.
In four years, Murray has helped the men's and women's teams win a collective 13 team conference championships and re-write program records in nearly all sprint and jump events, his primary focus. He's guided his athletes to All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American recognition.
Most recently, the women's track & field team won the USA South indoor and outdoor championships in 2026. They're now undefeated at the conference level since 2021. He also helped Marins Simons qualify for the second and third NCAA championship meets of her career in the high jump. After becoming the first women in program history earn First Team All-American status outdoors in 2025, she earned Second Team All-American recognition at both meets in 2026.
At SVU, in total he's coached athletes to 28 individual conference champions, over 100 all-conference performers, 10 USA South records, 29 program records, 16 All-Region honorees, and 4 All-American performances.
He's also developed several relay teams, including the women's 4x400 quartet who enjoyed a historic 2024 campaign. Their highlight came at the Liberty Twilight meet when the quartet of Tessa Miller, Savanna Chapin, Folole Torres and Addie Parker ran 4:00.00 to break their own school record.
In Murray's first season in 2023, student-athletes under his charge set 11 school records, accounted for 11 conference titles and garnered 26 USA South All-Conference selections. His athletes also set two USA South Conference indoor meet records and four USA South Conference outdoor meet records including both the men’s and women’s 4x400 meter relays. Murray also contributed to all four of the Men’s and Women’s USA South conference titles during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Additionally, Murray helped Coach Ainsley Lau who was named the USA South Conference field event newcomer of the year. Both Aaron Leavitt and Daniel De La Cruz were named all Region after both finished the season ranked first in the region in the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles respectively. Finally, De La Cruz capped the year by qualifying for the NCAA Championship meet in the 400-meter hurdles.
Before arriving at Southern Virginia, Murray spent six seasons at Utah State University, where his student-athletes combined for two All-America honors, four Mountain West titles and 38 All-Conference accolades under his tutelage. 2017 proved to be a banner year for the Aggie sprinters as AJ Boully won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.58 at the prestigious Texas Relays and later set a Mountain West meet record of 49.48 in the same event. Not to be outdone, the 4x400 meter relay team garnered several outstanding victories on the season, winning the Tyson Invitational Open division in 3:07.23 to set an indoor school record while also winning the Texas Relays University/College division in 3:06.72. The team of Boully, Joshua Gordon, Brady Martin and Michael Bluth also set a Mountain West meet record with a winning time of 3:05.53 at the outdoor championships.
Prior to his time at Utah State, Murray spent 15 seasons coaching at his Alma Mater, Southern Utah University. During his time with the Thunderbirds, Murray mentored 112 All-Conference student-athletes, 66 individual conference champions, three newcomers of the year, four conference athletes of the year, and four All-Americans. Additionally, he assisted in 39 conference team titles and in 2009, his athletes set a Summit League meet record in the Men's 4x400 meter relay.
Murray was a four-year letter-winner (1991-1996) and two-time all-conference honoree as a sprinter for the Thunderbirds. He graduated from SUU with a degree in Physical Education and later earned two graduate degrees from SUU in Education and Sports Conditioning/Performance.
Murray, a USATF level II certified coach, and his wife, Heather, currently reside in Lexington with their son Ronan.
