Josh Monsen was named Southern Virginia University's Director of Athletics in March, 2025. Previously, he was the Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics and Operations from 2020-2023, before serving as Deputy Director of Athletics for one year.
Monsen first came to Southern Virginia in 2018 to become the Sports Information Director. He held the position for two years before his promotion, where he enhanced the university's athletic communications and helped elevate the visibility of its programs.
"We really want our students to have a holistic approach in their college experience, and athletics is a big part of that," said Monsen. "College is all about core memories, and with over 60% of our students being members of at least one team, I want them to have the best memories of their time here as a Knight both on the court and in the classroom."
Prior to his arrival in Buena Vista, Monsen graduated from Gonzaga University with a master's degree in sports management and administration.
He received his bachelor's degree from Utah Valley University while competing on the Wolverines cross country and track and field teams. During his studies, Monsen worked with Utah Valley’s sports information department for two years.
Monsen received first and second team All-WAC honors in both cross country and track and field, as well as All-Academic honors for track and field.
Monsen served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spokane, Washington. He and his wife, JaLeigh, live in Lexington with their three kids Mack, Sutton, and Booker.
