Southern Virginia University welcomes Lance Carter to the Knight track & field coaching staff. An experienced coach of 31 years, Carter will coach the jumps events and has special expertise in the pole vault.
Most recently, Carter served as Pole Vault Coach at the University of Lynchburg for two seasons. He helped two vaulters win individual crowns in the ODAC, a key component of multiple team championships.
Simultaneously, Coach Carter had been serving as Head Coach of the Amherst High School track and field team. He also coached at Appomattox High School, helping numerous students progress socially and academically - guiding students into their working and collegiate careers.
As a high school coach, he helped 8 individuals to state titles in the pole vault and 6 jumpers to state titles. His teams have won 2 state championships along with numerous individual and team accolades.
Coach Carter went to Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, Virginia and spent his collegiate track and field careers at Carson Newman University and Bridgewater College.
