Laura Workman enters her second year as an assistant softballcoach at Southern Virginia University.
Workman grew up playing softball in Othello,Wash., and her family moved to Pasco, Wash. in 2004 where shecontinued to play for and graduate from Pasco High School in2009.
Following graduation, Workman began playingfor Southern Virginia University. She helped her team get to theUSCAA championship tournament where her team forfeited the Sundaygames and placed fifth overall. In the fall of 2010, SouthernVirginia University replaced head coach Col. Mike Smith with DusteGrawrock, who Workman played for the following three years. Duringher final season, Workman served as a team captain and made atransition from catcher to center field.
Workman graduated from Southern VirginiaUniversity in the spring of 2013 with a bachelor's degree inSpanish and liberal arts as well as minors in biology andchemistry. As an undergrad she was active in student government andwas vice president of the first Student Athlete Advisory Committeeat Southern Virginia. Workman was also active in the community as ayouth mentor, a volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity resale storeand an avid Remote Area Medical volunteer.
Laura and her husband, Tod, a member of thefootball team, reside in Buena Vista.
