Pickup joins the Knights after spending the past 10 seasons at Melissa High School in Melissa, Texas, where he served as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. During his tenure, he helped guide the program to 97 wins, three district championships, four regional finalist appearances, and a regional championship in 2026.

He began his coaching career at Timpanogos High School as a quarterbacks coach and played collegiately at Utah Tech. Pickup earned his bachelor of science in health education from Brigham Young University. He also served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico City.
