Michelle Mahaffey

Michelle Mahaffey is entering her first year as head volleyballcoach at Southern Virginia University. 

From 2007-2009, Mahaffey served as an assistant coach forSouthern Virginia volleyball as the team went 78-34 over thatperiod, including three straight third-place finishes at the USCAAnational tournament.

Mahaffey has a B.S. in pedagogy with a minor in coaching fromBrigham Young University where she played four years (1999-2002) onthe women’s volleyball team, highlighted by three NCAAtournament appearances.

As a freshman in 1999, Mahaffey helped the Cougars claim aconference championship in the newly formed Mountain WestConference. As a senior in 2002, she was named to the AcademicAll-Mountain West Conference Team and earned BYU’sprestigious Kimball Memorial Award, which is given to anoutstanding male or female who letters at least twice and who hasthe highest scholarly achievement of those who qualify.

Mahaffey and her husband Chad reside in Buena Vista, Va., withtheir three children.
