Brian Pendleton has been the head men’s basketball coachat Southern Virginia University since 2008 and the head men’sand women’s golf coach since 2011. He is also director ofathletic fundraising and an adjunct instructor of German.
After only three years at the helm of Southern Virginiamen’s basketball, Pendleton is tied with Don Chamberlain(2000-2006) for the most wins in program history with a careerrecord of 57-29 and holds the program’s highest careerwinning percentage (.611).
In 2011, Pendleton led the men’s basketball to its firstUSCAA national championship setting single-season program recordsfor wins (24) and winning percentage (.750) along the way. TheKnights have qualified for postseason play in all three ofPendleton’s seasons, placing fourth at the USCAA nationaltournament in 2009 and second in 2010.
After winning a basketball national championship in 2011,Pendleton was named head men’s and women’s golf coach.Pendleton previously coached Southern Virginia’s golf teamsin spring 2007, helping Grant Dean win the university’s onlymen’s golf individual national championship.
Pendleton was also Southern Virginia’s head volleyballcoach from 2007-2009 and holds the program’s all-time highestwinning percentage (.696) with a career record of 78-34, includingthree straight third-place finishes at the USCAA nationaltournament.
Prior to arriving at Southern Virginia in 2006, Pendleton servedin public education for 26 years in the state of Washington asprincipal, vice principle, athletic director and teacher. Pendletonalso enjoyed success coaching at the high school level highlightedby a women’s volley state championship in 1984 andmen’s basketball state championship 1992. After winning the1992 men’s basketball state championship at his alma matter,Kentridge High School, Pendleton was named Washington State’s“Coach of the Year.”
Pendleton has a B.A. in education and master's degree ineducation from Central Washington University and is currentlypursuing a master's degree in German from the University ofPortland.
In addition to his coaching duties, Pendleton leads directsfundraising efforts for Southern Virginia Athletics and teachesseveral German courses. He served a fulltime mission for TheChurch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in NorthernGermany.
