Michael Harmon

Mike Harmon enters his first year as Southern VirginiaUniversity's athletics academic advisor. 

Harmon came to Southern Virginia in 1998—one yearafter the university began its athletic program—as theschool’s first head women’s volleyball coach and alsoserved as the assistant women’s basketball coach that sameyear.

The following season, Harmon became head women’sbasketball coach and guided the program to its first ever NSCAAnational championship during the 1999-2000 season. Throughout his14-year tenure as head women’s basketball coach, Harmon hasled Southern Virginia to three national titles (2000, 2002, 2006)and is the program’s all-time winningest coach with 194career wins.

In addition to women’s basketball, Harmon served asSouthern Virginia’s head women’s volleyball coach forten seasons leading that program to two national championships(2000, 2002), while tallying 205 career wins.

Harmon’s combined 399 career wins and five nationaltitles are more than any other coach in Southern VirginiaUniversity history.

On January 1, 2013, Harmon was honored as SouthernVirginia's first Pioneer Coach.

Before coming to Southern Virginia, Harmon served asassistant basketball coach at his alma mater, Limestone College, inGaffney, S.C.

Harmon graduated in 1991 from Limestone College with aB.A. in physical education and earned his master's degree inphysical education and kinesiology from California State Universityat Long Beach.

Along with his coaching duties, Harmon teaches a number ofphysical education courses at Southern Virginia.
