NEWPORT NEWS, Va. The Knights were led by Wesley and Cory Evans
in an 87- 75 loss to the Shipbuilders.
Wesley Evans scored his season- high of 21 points to lead the
Knights against the Shipbuilders. Evans also grabbed seven
rebounds. Cory Evans added 17 points, a team- high four assists and
five boards on the night. Dele Opeifa and Bryce Pendleton each
scored 14 points. Opeifa also grabbed seven boards and Pendleton
dished out four assists. Derek Cutler and Justin Watson came off of
the bench with a team- high of eight rebounds apiece.
The Knights led by as many as eight points in the first half until
the Shipbuilders took over at the 11:14 mark on a three- pointer by
Jason Arrington. The Knights failed to come back as the
Shipbuilders went on to lead by as many as 18 points shooting 19
for 29(.655) in the half. Bryce Pendleton hit a three pointer as
time expired in the first half giving the Builders a 15 point lead
at 50-35.
The Knights struggled to make a comeback only coming within 11
points in the second half. The Builders led by as many as 20 points
on a three-pointer by Eric Ruffin with 15:15 left in regulation. In
the final seconds of the game, Elliot Briggs hit a three- pointer
for a final score of 87-75.
The Knights' 25 second chance points and 44-31 rebounding
effort was not enough for the Builders six players' double-
figure scoring. Eric Ruffin had a double- double with 18 points and
10 assists for Apprentice. Isaih Harrison added 16 points for the
Builders.
The Knights next challenge is against Division I VMI on Thursday,
January 29, 2009 at 7 p.m.
