BUIES CREEK, N.C. The Southern Virginia men's Basketball team
could not overcome a big first half from the hosts Campbell, and
lost 86-58. SVU fell behind to the Camels early, and trailed at the
half 46-27. The Knights were unable to mount a comeback like the
one against Shenandoah, and Campbell outscored SVU in the second
half, to erase any chance of a Knight upset.
The Knights were led by Chris Lewis who recorded 14-points and
8-rebounds. Cory Evans added 12-points to the cause, and Ade Swann
put in another 10-points.
SVU fell behind early, and then struggled even more, as Campbell
closed out the first half on a 20-4 run. The Knights could not find
an answer for Campbell forward Jonathan Rodriguez who went for
22-points and 10-rebounds, and set an Atlantic Sun Conference
record with his 43rd double-double.
The Knights could not keep pace with the Camels and suffered 25
turnovers which led to 29 Camel points. Evans paced the Knights in
the three-points scored as he went 4-5 from beyond the arc, and
helped SVU shoot 41% from three-point range. The Knights lost in
the rebound column as well, as Campbell pulled down 44 boards to
the Knights' 33.
SVU will look to rebound from the loss Dec. 12 when they face
off against a familiar opponent in Eastern Mennonite. Tip-off for
the game is 2:00 pm. SVU is now 7-4 for the season.
