FRONT ROYAL, Va. After outshooting Christendom College for 90
minutes the Southern Virginia Men's Soccer team had to settle for a
scoreless draw. Josh Patino led all players with 7 shots, but the
Knights were not able to get the ball past the Crusader keeper. SVU
tallied 20 total shots, and had 9 shots on goal.
"It's hard when you do everything right but score," said Head
Coach Tom Longenecker. "The stats show what kind of chances we had.
We were just really unlucky."
The Knights did have the ball in the back of the net in the
second half, but an offside call brought the ball back and negated
the score. That was as close as SVU would get for the rest of the
afternoon. Mike Wilson and Ben May shared the shutout.
"It (the result) doesn't hurt us, but it certainly doesn't help
us," said Longenecker. "We need wins to help us get in a position
to be eligible for the USCAA Tournament. We need to take our
chances and get the wins when they present themselves. We were a
little wasteful today."
The Knights now sit at 4-3-1. SVU hosts Patrick Henry College
Sept. 30 at 4:00. The game is a rematch from earlier in the season
when the Knights won 3-1.
