BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia men's basketball team was unable to hand the ninth-ranked Captains a conference loss, and fell to Christopher Newport 82-73 on Wednesday at home.
The Knights (6-11, 5-5 CAC) scored the first basket of the game, but that was the only lead they would have as the Captains (16-1, 10-0 CAC) quickly responded. A Justin Langford jumper in the last seconds of the first half cut CNU's halftime lead to nine.
Two-time CAC player of the week Kevin Walker led all scorers with 23 points and five assists. Anders Jacobson chipped in 17 and David Baety added nine points and seven boards.
Southern Virginia heads to St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday before returning home on Monday to play the rescheduled game versus Wesley College. Times can be found at athletics.svu.edu.
