BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia softball team fell to Frostburg State University 2-1 and 10-0 in a conference doubleheader on senior day at Harvey-Dryden Field on Wednesday evening.
Game One
In game one Southern Virginia (7-27, 0-12 CAC) took an early 1-0 lead over Frostburg (22-8, 8-2 CAC) scoring on Mollie Gabbert's RBI single down the right field line that brought Rachael Moore across the plate. The Knights were able to hold the lead through the third inning before the Bobcats scored two runs in the fourth taking the win 2-1.
Moore, Gabbert, Jordan Stites, Annie Clark, and Madisen Muse each earned a hit for the Knights. Muse earned two strikeouts and allowed five hits, two runs, and six walks in seven innings pitched.
Game Two
In game two Frostburg scored two runs in the third inning and continued to run. The Knights were unable to get on base allowing Frostburg to continue the momentum scoring two runs, including a homerun, in the fourth. The Bobcats added three in the sixth before bringing three players across the plate in the seventh and taking the second win of the day over the Knights 10-0.
Tara Hilton earned the only hit for Southern Virginia. Madisen Muse pitched seven innings allowing 15 hits, 10 runs, and three walks.
Seniors Annie Clark and Sarah Edwards were honored after the game for thier many contributions to the program over recent years.
The Knights close conference play on the road in a doubleheader against Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
