Volleyball Winless at Invitational, Gwynn Honored

LEXINGTON, Va.—The Southern Virginia women's volleyball team played four games in the Washington & Lee Invitational this weekend, falling 3-2 and 3-0 on Friday and 3-1 and 3-0 on Saturday. Junior hitter Penny Gwynn was named to the All-Tournament team.

Friday's contests featured the Knights (0-5) against Centre College and Randolph-Macon. In the first match Southern Virginia took Centre to five games, winning the second and fourth 25-21 and 25-23. An extremely tight game five, which ended up 21-19, went in favor of the Colonels.

In the evening match, against Randolph-Macon College, the Knights lost 3-0 overall after a heart-breaking first match which fell the way of the Yellow Jackets.

Saturday morning Southern Virginia took a set from Washington & Lee, the invitational champions, but fell 3-1 overall before falling to Averett for the second time this year.

Penny Gwynn, who was named to the All-Tournament team after the invitational, recorded 45 kills in four games, and leads the Knights in kills and kills per set. She also recorded 23 digs and has a hitting percentage of .168 for the season.
