Knights Ousted by Generals

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team squared off in a crosstown matchup against Washington and Lee University Tuesday night, falling 85-60.

The Knights (1-3) stayed close to the Generals (3-1) in the first half. Southern Virginia trailed 19-10 and then went on a 9-2 run to bring them within two points at 21-19. The Generals would respond, going on a run of their own extending the lead to 10 at the end of the first half with the score 44-34.

The second half was more of the Generals increasing their lead, outscoring the Knights 41-26. The Knights offense struggled in the second half, shooting 24 percent from the floor and the team did would not score from behind the arc shooting 0-10.

The Knights as a team shot 32.8 percent for the game compared to the 41.3 percent for the Generals. Washington and Lee outrebounded the Knights 42-37 and committed six fewer turnovers. Southern Virginia's bench would outscore the Generals 33-25.

Jaron Anderson's 19 points coming off the bench was the game-high and the only Knight to hit double-figures. Jamier Cross would finish with eight points and six rebounds. Trey Dill led the Knights on the boards with 10 and Alec Johnson scored seven points and a team-high seven assists.

The Knights will return to action at home Tuesday, Nov. 27 against Roanoke at 7:00 p.m. in the Knight Arena.
