Box Score FREDERICK, Md. — The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team finished up at the MMI Tip-Off Tournament Saturday afternoon, losing 112-62 to Albertus Magnus.
The Falcons (1-1) collected its first win of the season after holding Southern Virginia (0-2) to 34.6 percent (18-for-52) shooting from the floor and only 7.1 percent (1-for-14) from behind the arc. Albertus Magnus produced on the offensive end shooting 53.1 percent (43-for-81) from the floor, including 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from 3-point range.
After trailing 59-17 at the half, the Knights found some offensive rhythm in the second half of play as they shot 51.9 percent (14-for-27) from the floor but despite the improvement, the sizeable first-half deficit would prove to be insurmountable.
Jamier Cross led Southern Virginia with a game-high 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting while adding three rebounds. Freshman Brycen Harris was the only other Knight to reach double-figures with 14. Trey Dill, for the second consecutive game, led the Knights on the boards with nine rebounds and added eight points.
Quincy Jones led the Knights bench with eight points while Aaron Leavitt came in and provided solid minutes with six points and six rebounds.
Tyreek Perkins was Albertus Magnus's top scorer with 15 points in 14 minutes of play.
Following the MMI Tip-Off Tournament, Freshman Ricky Stafford was named to the All-Tournament team.
Southern Virginia returns home for its home-opener Tuesday, Nov. 12, against Randolph College at 7 p.m.
