Box Score 2 FROSTBURG, Md. — The Southern Virginia University softball team dropped a pair of games in their doubleheader at Frostburg State Wednesday afternoon, losing the first game 5-3 and the second game 10-4.
The Knights (6-22, 0-4) allowed the first run of the game in the bottom of the first to the Bobcats (13-9, 2-0) on an error giving them the early 1-0 advantage.
The Bobcats increased their lead in the third and fifth innings scoring two runs with the Knights now trailing 3-0.
Southern Virginia's first runs of the game came in the top of the sixth when Madison Rigby tripled to left field scoring Bethanie Hudson and Matea Manuleleua to bring the Knights within one.
Frostburg State followed the Knights run adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth pushing their lead back to three, 5-2.
The Knights scored in the top of the seventh on a fielding error but were unable to close the gap falling 5-3.
As a team, Southern Virginia tallied eight hits with Heather Terranova and Caitlin Barber leading the way with two hits each.
In the circle was Megan Harmon going six innings and picking up five strikeouts.
In game two, the Bobcats led 8-0 due to some costly errors heading into the top of the fifth inning. The Knights broke the shutout in the top of the fifth on a Manuleleua singled down the left field line scoring Airin Lara.
The following inning in the bottom of the sixth, the Knights score a pair of runs coming from an RBI single by Hudson and a Rigby walk with the bases loaded that scored Tara Caputo making the score now 8-3.
After two more runs for the Bobcats in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Knights scored one more time in the top of the seventh from a Caputo single scoring Barber with the final score being 10-4.
The Knights collected eight hits with seven different batters picking up a hit while Caputo led the team as the only player with a pair of hits.
Southern Virginia heads to play Wilson College this Friday, April 5 for a quick non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
