Knights Fall at William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team fell, 110-68, at William Peace Tuesday night at Hermann Athletic Center.

Calvin Seamons led the Knights (1-14) in scoring coming off the bench with a career-high 17 points (7-for-11) to go along with four rebounds. Jake Fisher also produced off the bench scoring a career-high 14-points. Jamier Cross tallied a team-high five rebounds. John Burwell led the Pacers (5-7) with 17 points while Tyson Sellers and Donolly Tyrell Jr. each chipped in 13.

After a Sam Armstrong three-pointer to bring Southern Virginia to within one, 7-6, two minutes into the contest, William Peace's offense found its rhythm from that point on outscoring the Knights 28-10 over the next eight minutes to take a 35-16 lead with 9:59 left in the half. The Pacers offense maintained their offensive and defensive success for the remainder of the half to lead 51-33 at the break.

Seamons and Fisher each led Southern Virginia with seven points each at the half while Sellers scored 11 for William Peace.

In the first half, the Knights shot 40 percent (12-for-30) from the floor, 30 percent (3-for-10) from behind the arc, and 85.7 percent (6-for-7) from the foul line. The Pacers managed to get to the charity stripe for 22 free throw attempts in the first half (15-for-22) and outrebounded the Knights 24-15.

The second half of play was similar to the first, with William Peace building their lead throughout the final 20 minutes, shooting 66.7 percent (20-for-30) on its way to victory.

On the game, Southern Virginia matched its first-half numbers shooting 40 percent (24-for-60) from the field and 30 percent (6-for-20) from deep while the Pacers managed to shoot 54.7 percent (35-for-64) from the floor and 50 percent (13-for-26) from three. William Peace won the rebounding battle 43-30, points in the paint 19-8, and capitalized off the Southern Virginia turnovers scoring 20 points.

The Knights will now return home to begin Capital Athletic Conference play against Salisbury Saturday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. inside Knight Arena.
