STAUNTON, VA. — The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team opened USA South Conference play Tuesday night, taking on Mary Baldwin University. The Knights were unable to overcome the Fighting Squirrels, dropping their conference opener 67-77.

• Isaiah Marchant led the charge in the first half of play with a team-high eight points
• Marchant added two steals and two assists to his first-half performance
• Jesse Barker added quality play, contributing seven points and two rebounds
• Brandin Ziegler heated up towards the end of the first with six points and four rebounds
• The Knights headed into the halftime break, trailing 35-39
• Conner Marchant took over in the second half with a team-high ten points
• Southern Virginia only trailed by one point 67-68 with just over three minutes left in the match, but Mary Baldwin hit a clutch three to put the team up six points, 73-67
• The Squirrels locked in their victory with two final free throws to take home the 77-67 win

The Knights will look to bounce back from the night, taking on Pfeiffer for another USA South matchup in Knight Arena on Saturday, December 4. Game time is scheduled for 2 pm.
