LYNCHBURG, VA. — The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team improved to 5-5 on the year, taking down Randolph College 69-59 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.

Game Notes 

• Malakai Olson got the scoring going just 20 seconds into the game
• Both teams struggled to find points at the beginning of the game, but Conner Marchant and Malakai Olson resumed scoring to put the Knights up 6-4
• Down 22-17 with seven minutes remaining in the half, Conner Marchant and Jesse barker brought the team within one point 21-22
• Following a three minute drought of scoring, Conner Marchant hit a layup to put the team up by one 23-22 with just under a minute remaining
• Jesse Barker snuck in a final layup with nine seconds remaining in the half to send Southern Virginia into the halftime break with the 25-22 lead
• Randolph grabbed their largest lead of the game 42-37 midway through the second half after both teams traded leads and scoring runs
• The Marchant brother and Scottie Ziegner tallied 15 unanswered points for the Knights to put themselves ahead 54-44 with five minutes remaining in the game
• Southern Virginia held on to the ten-point lead the remainder of the game to solidify the 69-59 win over Randolph
• The Knights outshot the Wildcats 41.7 percent to 40.7 percent from the field, while also outrebounding them 38-35
• Southern Virginia also dished out more assists 13-12, while scoring more points off the bench 17-15
• The Knights dominated the paint, outscoring the Wildcats 38-24

Southern Virginia travels to Newport News, Virginia, to compete in the CNU Tournament, where the Knights square off first against Shenandoah on Wednesday, December 29. Game time is scheduled for 2 pm.
