BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team faced off against NC Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in Knight arena, earning their third consecutive victory, taking down the Bishops 77-67.

Conner Marchant: Team-high 17 points | five assists | four rebounds

Elliot Spencer: 16 points | seven assists | five rebounds 

Game Notes

• The Knights struggled at the beginning of the match to get points on the board, but Scottie Ziegner came off the bench with four quick points to get things going
• Conner Marchant and Elliot Spencer led the squad in the first half, scoring six points each
• Malakai Olson followed with four points and six rebounds 
• Southern Virginia used a late scoring run at the end of the half to cut their deficit down to five points 29-24 before heading into the halftime break
• The Knights kept the momentum going into the second half cutting the deficit to one point 35-34 courtesy of a Scottie Ziegner three 
• Elliot Spencer clutched up from range, draining a three to give Southern Virginia their first lead of the game 42-41 with 13:43 remaining
• The Knights never relinquished their lead the remainder of the game to solidify their 77-64 victory
• Malakai led all players in the second half, recording 12 points and four rebounds
• Conner Marchant added 11 points, while Elliot Spencer chipped in ten more points
• Coming off of the bench, Scottie Ziegner tallied nine points and three rebounds, while Kade Harrick contributed eight points and went 6-6 from the free-throw line
• The Knights shot 65.2 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from behind the arc in the second half
• Southern Virginia outrebounded NC Wesleyan 36-34 while dishing out more assists 17-13
• The Knights dominated the paint, outscoring the Bishops 30-14, and the bench won their battle, outscoring NC Wesleyan 23-19

Southern Virginia welcomes Mary Baldwin to Knight Arena Thursday, February 3, for a rematch where the Knights won their previous outing earlier in the year. Game time is slated for 6 pm.
