BUENA VISTA, Va. -- The Southern Virginia University Field Hockey team dropped a home contest to Eastern Mennonite University, Monday night, 6-1.
Player of the Game:
Keira White had a game high five saves
First Half:
Eastern Mennonite got on the board first, Rileyanne Collins fired a shot outside the arc,
Keira White made a great stop but Juliana Ghally controlled the rebound, and blasted a shot into the goal, putting the Royals up 1-0.
Elizabeth Longacre scored the second goal of the game, after a beautiful pass from Brandy Troutman, converting on the penalty corner opportunity for Eastern Mennonite.
The Royals got another offensive opportunity afterJuliana Ghally got a shot off,
Keira White once again stalled the offensive attack recording her second save of the game.
Eastern Mennonite once again scored after an initial shot from Brandy Troutman was blocked. Hayley Collins was able to control the rebound and fire pff a shot. Scoring the fourth goal of the game for the Royals.
Brandy Troutman scored her second goal of the game with 1:09 remaining of the half, putting the Royals up 5-0 at the end of the first half.
Second Half:
Morgan Lesley scored her first goal of the game, and the sixth for Eastern Mennonite after she was able to lift the ball over
Keira White's head.
The Knights dug in defensively in the second half, and allowed just one goal in the entire thirty minutes of play.
Elizabeth Sorto was able to capitalize on a scoring opportunity after she was able to fire off a shot that put the puck in the back of the net. The scoring opportunity was orchestrated after a superb pass from sophomore
Ellie Marble.
Up Next:
Southern Virginia welcomes Sweet Briar College to Knight Stadium, next week on Tuesday, October 18th. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
