Knights Football Bested by Scots

BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University Football team took on Maryville College (TN) Saturday afternoon in Knight Stadium for the University's Homecoming Game. The Scots dominated from the opening whistle, taking home the 45-7 victory.

Maikeli Tuinakauvadra shined for the Knights, recording six tackles (five solo, one assisted) and recording a season-high and career-high three sacks.

The first quarter featured Mayville jumping to a 13-0 lead off an initial touchdown pass from Bryson Rollins to Steph Carter Jr. for the 62-yard touchdown pass. With under two minutes remaining, Rollins connected with Kyelar Edwards in the endzone for an 11-yard touchdown pass, completing the 77-yard drive.

In the second quarter, Rollins put Maryville up 19-0, keeping the ball himself, and scrambling for a 19-yard touchdown run. The ensuing two-point conversion failed off a rush attempt by Rollins.

55 seconds before the end of the first half, Rollins threw his third touchdown of the game, connecting with Kevon Samuels for the 27-yard pass. Inoke Kaufusi denied the extra point attempt, blocking the kick, making the score 25-0.

Rollins later threw his fourth touchdown pass with 9:07 remaining in the third quarter, this time finding Trystin Wright open and taking it to the house for a 24-yard score.

On the following drive by the Knights, a bad snap past the punter placed the ball in the endzone with Jacob Berven landing on the ball, and scoring the special teams touchdown, putting the Scots up 38-0.

Maryville scored their final touchdown in the fourth quarter with 7:37 remaining in the game with Cooper Wick throwing his first touchdown of the game, finding Jackson Noble for the 14-yard touchdown.

Southern Virginia scored their lone touchdown of the game, going ten plays for 63 yards, capped by a final four-yard touchdown rush from Cade Nelson.

The Knights hit the road on Saturday, October 22, taking on conference newcomer Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi. Game time is slated for noon.
