Southern Virginia Downed by William Peace after Three Second Half Goals

CARY, N.C. – The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team fell at the hands of league leaders, William Peace, on the road Saturday afternoon after the Pacers scored three second half goals.

The meeting was the sixth overall between the programs with the Pacers holding onto the advantage in the series having now won five matches in a row.

The first half ended in a scoreless stalemate with the Pacers applying lots of offensive pressure, taking eight shots, but the Knights defense held strong with Spencer Young making two stops.

William Peace got on the board quickly in the second half after Danny Alvarez converted on a pass from Davis Kelly.

The Pacers extended their lead just seven minutes later after the conference leader in goals, Jorge Lemus, found the back of the net after an assist by Jorge Aguilar.

The game was put to bed in the 80th minute when Jose Martinez-Hernandez scored his first goal of the year to push the score to 3-0. Aguilar added his second assist on the goal for his ninth of the campaign, good for first in the USA South.

Southern Virginia will continue conference play when it travels to Mary Baldwin on Wednesday, October 26 with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m.
