FREDERICKSBURG, VA. — The Southern Virginia University Women's Basketball team (3-3) traveled to the University of Mary Washington (8-0) to take on the Eagles in a non-conference matchup. Mary Washington kept their record perfect, taking down the Knights 77-47.
Maria Savvun and
Barrett Jessop led the team with ten points each, while
Courtney Olson and
Alyssa McKrola followed with seven points, with the team collecting 29 total rebounds.
The Eagles set the tone early, scoring 21 points in the first quarter, shooting 47.06% from the field and 43.8% in the first half, led by Sydney Sherman's ten points.
Courtney Olson led the Knights with six points, while
Barrett Jessop added five coming off the bench.
The second half showed Savvun and McKrola stepping up for the team, with Savvun scoring eight points, shooting 50% from the field while McKrola scored seven points off the bench. Southern Virginia improved their shooting, going 5-10 from behind the arc and bringing in eight offensive rebounds.
Southern Virginia returns home on Saturday, December 3, taking on Meredith College in Knight Arena at 4 pm.
