Ramirez Earns Bid to Nationals; Southern Virginia Wrestling Finishes Up at NCAA Southeast Regional

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. — The Southern Virginia University wrestling team competed at the NCAA Southe East Regional over the weekend on Friday, February 25, and Saturday, February 26, with Nico Ramirez dominating his bracket and placing second. Ramirez's placement earns him an automatic bid to nationals.

In the 149-pound class, Eli Blackwell went 1-1 on the day defeating his opponent by decision 10-3.

After a first-round bye, Nico Ramirez began making his moves to the championship round. In his first match, Ramirez took on Roanoke, pinning his opponent in 1:43. In his next match, Ramirez faced off against Messiah, pinning his second consecutive opponent in 6:04, advancing himself to the championship match.

In the championship match, Ramirez was unable to overcome his opposition, falling to Lycoming 5-0. Ramirez locked in a second-place finish and a bid to Nationals.
