Southern Virginia Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight Match; Dominates Eastern Mennonite 4-0

BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University Women's Soccer team welcomed Eastern Mennonite University to Knight Stadium Monday morning for a non-conference matchup. At the end of the night, Southern Virginia captured their third consecutive victory over the Royals 4-0.

How it Happened:
Five minutes into the game, Makinna Winterton connected with Courtney Montes, who fired off a shot outside the box to score her first career goal and put the team up 1-0 early.

Two minutes later, Montes got off a shot on goal that was initially saved by Aja Laun, but Matia Murray found herself at the right place at the right time, controlling the rebound and putting the ball in the back of the net, making the new score 2-0.

In the 26th minute, Makinna Winterton created separation from two defenders marking her, finding the ball off a cross, and placing the ball under the top cross bar to record her fourth goal of the season and scoring her ninth point of the season.

Heading into the halftime break, the Knights led the Royals 3-0.

Following the intermission in the 53rd minute, Courtney Montes sent a cross over to Maybel Harris who redirected the ball into the net to score her first goal of the season, putting the team up 4-0.

Southern Virginia's defense stood their ground the remainder of the game, helping the team lock in the 4-0 victory.
