FAYETTEVILLE, NC. — The Southern Virginia University Women's Soccer team traveled to Methodist University the opening weekend of USA South Conference play. The Monarchs came away with the victory 1-0.
How it Happened:
Madisen Staples and
Courtney Montes got shots off early, but Methodist kept control of the tempo of the game early on 11 total shots in the first half.
Alyssa Trueman stood tall, recording five saves in the first.
In the 40
th minute, Madison Rizer got the Monarchs on the board, scoring her second goal of the season controlling the rebound off an initial Trueman save, and putting the ball in the back of the net.
Trueman continued to shine in the second half, recording three more saves. The Knights were able to get five shots off in the half but were unable to convert. The Monarch's defense kept the Knight attack away from the goal the remainder of the game, taking the 1-0 victory.

Southern Virginia travels to Ashland, Virginia, to take on Randolph-Macon on Thursday, September 29. Game time is set for 7 pm.
