ASHLAND, Va. – Southern Virginia Men's Soccer dropped their first game of the season at Randolph-
Macon College on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets scored an early goal but the Knights battled hard on the defensive end to head into
half time down just one.
The Knights applied more pressure at the start of the second half leading to some scoring opportunities.
Sam Melo won a corner kick in the 62 nd minute and as the ball was in the air a foul was called in the box
and a penalty was awarded for the Knights.
Reed Robertson, a freshman from Columbus, Ohio got Southern Virginia on the board after converting
the penalty, sending the goalie the wrong way and firing the ball right down the middle. The goal was
Robertson's first as a Knight.
Randolph-Macon retook the lead off a curler from outside the box that found the side netting after
freshman
Sean Gutzman got a hand to the ball but was unable to parry it past the post.
In his debut, Gutzman had a very impressive performance, turning away 8 shots on goal.
The Yellow Jackets added two late goals as Southern Virginia pushed men forward to try and tie the
game.
The Knights return home to take on Randolph College on Wednesday, September, 7 with kick off set for
7:00 pm.
