BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Knights men's soccer team fall to 0-2-1 after a loss to the Randolph College Wildcats (2-1) Wednesday night.
In the first 25 minutes, the game was controlled by the Wildcats, with most of their possession coming on the offensive side of field.
Randolph was able to convert on their first real scoring opportunity when Rhajee Scarlett played a ball in from just outside the six-yard box on the left side of the field to a streaking Cooper Sayles who slid in front of the Knight defender and snuck the ball past
Dallin Chappell.
After the goal, Southern Virginia held onto the ball a little more, with most of their possession coming in their own third. As the half progressed they were able to move further up the pitch, resulting in a half-chance.
Forwards
Tanner Gonder,
Reed Robertson and
Dax Bryson pressed hard for the Knights, making it difficult for the Wildcats to move the ball forward.
The second half got off to a much better start for Southern Virginia who were able to win a corner in the 53 rd minute.
Reed Robertson got a head on the ball but goalkeeper Carter Kelly made the save for the Wildcats.
Randolph increased their lead to two after a solo effort from Brian Kuhl, who dinked the ball around the Knights' defender and curled the ball past Chappell.
The best chance for the Knights came in the 73 rd minute when
Tanner Gonder slipped the ball behind the Wildcats' defense and Robertson forced the Randolph goalkeeper to make a wonderful save.
The Wildcats added to their lead when Colby Lambert found teammate Noah Carney inside the box and he found the back of the net for Randolph's third goal of the night.
Southern Virginia travels to Ferrum, Virginia on Saturday where they will take on the Panthers of Ferrum College with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
