BREVARD, NC. – Wrapping up the two-game weekend, Southern Virginia University (7-8,6-3) fell to second-seed Brevard College (11-4, 8-1) off a 29-14 fourth-quarter flurry.
A trio of Knights led the way, with the freshman duo of Abigail Snyder and Presley Heggie continuing to come up big for the team, along with Alyssa McKrola, each recording 13 points. Snyder and Heggie went 5-11 from the field, while McKrola knocked down four of her seven field goals.
Both teams went back and forth at the beginning of the game, keeping the score knotted at 12 before the Tornados pulled ahead 21-17 heading into the second.
The Knights collected themselves, shooting 44.89 percent from the field through the second and third quarters and outscoring their opposition 39-28, marching into the final quarter with a 56-49 lead.
Demonstrating their resilience, Brevard bounced back, chipping away at Southern Virginia's lead before completing a fourth-quarter comeback, and securing the 78-70 victory.
Southern Virginia returns home to Knight Arena on Wednesday, January 18, looking ahead to No. 1 Christopher Newport University with tip-off set for 6 pm.
