Southern Virginia Earns Hard Fought Victory Over Hornets

WINCHESTER, Va- The Southern Virginia University men's wrestling team defeated Shenandoah University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference dual 23-22. The win gives the Knights a 4-3 overall record with an even 2-2 record in conference competition. The Hornets fall to 2-7 overall and 0-5 in conference.

At 125 pounds, Francisco Ramirez won convincingly over his opponent with a 16-0 victory giving the Knights an early 5-0 lead over the Hornets.

For the 141 pound class, Xavier Jukes recorded his second consecutive victory as he was able to win by fall at the 4:02 mark in the match.

Elijah Blackwell continued the positive momentum as he won a hard fought 6-2 win over Christian Johnston-Hunte. The win furthered the Southern Virginia overall team score to a 14-4 advantage.

Morgan Peterson recorded his fourth consecutive dual meet victory for Southern Virginia. The senior was able to win by a large margin as he defeated his opponent 20-3.

After several close matches the Hornets were able to cut into the Knights lead with a team score of 16-19. Jaden Markus proved to be the hero as he was able to secure a 9-1 victory over Dylan Wiegert. The win for Markus proved too much for Shenandoah to make up as Southern Virginia walked away with the 23-22 victory.

The Knights will be back at home Thursday, February 2 as they take on cross-town rival Washington and Lee University. Wrestling is set to start at 6 P.M.
