Ada, Ohio – The Southern Virginia University men's wrestling team delivered its best NCAA Regional performance in program history, finishing ninth out of 20 teams in a highly competitive field.
A major catalyst for the Knights' success was freshman standout Tradyn Henderson. Wrestling with confidence and aggression, Henderson tied for the most pins in the entire tournament, recording three falls in a combined time of just 10 minutes, 42 seconds. His dominant run propelled him to a fifth-place finish, marking one of the top individual regional performances in program history.
Senior Porter Kinne capped his Knight career with resilience and determination on his way to a sixth-place finish. After dropping a tightly contested 17-13 decision early in the tournament, Kinne battled back through the consolation bracket. He rattled off five straight victories by decision—17-5, 16-11, 5-1, 7-3, and 6-1—to close his collegiate career on a high note.
Harrison Hoopes also earned a top finish, placing eighth in his weight class. Hoopes opened with a quick fall before posting a dominant 19-4 technical fall. He later added a commanding 20-12 major decision in the consolation rounds to secure his eighth-place finish.
At heavyweight, Marc Richardson rebounded after an opening-round loss to win three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket, earning 5.5 crucial team points and helping solidify the Knights' historic ninth-place team result.
With multiple podium finishers and significant contributions from both veterans and rising underclassmen, Southern Virginia showcased the depth and promise of the program. The Knights' highest-ever regional finish signals strong momentum as they look ahead to building on this breakthrough performance next season.
