BUENA VISTA, VA. — Southern Virginia's hot start to the first quarter, outscoring Pfeiffer 22-10 helped propel the Knights past the Falcons 77-60 Wednesday night. The win to begin the 2023 year improved the team's record to 5-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Senior
Courtney Olson dominated the court with her second double-double of the year, recording 13 points and 16 rebounds, hitting six of her nine shots from the field. Freshman
Abbigail Snyder shined for the offense with a season, and career-high, 24 points. Snyder went 8-for-18 from the field and knocked down four shots from behind the arc for 12 points in the first half. Rounding out the scoring,
Emma Camden ended her night, going 4-for-6 from the field for 11 points.
Pfeiffer, now 2-9, tightened up their defense in the second quarter, holding the Knights to 14 points while scoring 13 led by four points from Alexis Bynum before heading into the halftime break. Coming back from the break, Southern Virginia rallied off 11 straight points to extend their lead to 24 points, capped off by a
Jadie O'Bray three pointer before the two teams traded points the remainder of the quarter.
The Falcons had their best quarter in the fourth, shooting 47.62 percent from the field, eventually leading the team to outscore the Knights 24-21 in the fourth. While Pfeiffer had their best quarter, Southern Virginia also had their best quarter shooting, sinking 50 percent of their shots from the field, keeping their lead to 17 points, and claiming the 77-60 victory.
The Knights remain home over the weekend, taking on North Carolina Wesleyan University in Knight Arena on Saturday, January 7 with tip-off set for 3 pm.
