LEXINGTON, VA - The Southern Virginia University women's golf team began round two of the Knight Invitational Tuesday and had a solid ending to secure third place in the tournament
Sydney Richards led the women's team and earned an impressive top-five finish after tallying three birdies yesterday and then one more today for the best tournament of her young Southern Virginia career, shooting a 75 for a total of 153 and a T4th place finish.
Ellie Billings joined the all-invitational team with solid play through the invitational where she shot an 82 on the first day and improved on the second day with a score of 80 for a total of 162 and a T11th place finish.
Quinn Shupe delivered a steady performance over the two days of competition with an 80 on the first day and with great efforts from Halle Western and Maura Hawkes the Knights were able to achieve a top-three ranking.
For the Men's team, they experienced highs and lows as the competition came to a close Tuesday afternoon with a day one score of 324 and on day two 326 for an overall third-place finish at 650 total.
Jameson Harper who sat ninth after an excellent showing on day one, fell just a little bit behind on day two, shooting ten-over 81 for an 11th-place individual finish.
Coleman Oettli finished day one with a six-over 77 and had a frustrating opening on day two where he got behind early and ended up finding his pace in the back nine but those couple of mistakes dropped him just out of the top-10 with a T14th.
Alex Cox was able to have noteworthy invitational in the individuals with solid back-to-back days for a 163 total and a T14th place finish
Mason Schlensker and
David Jensen both improved on their day one score and carded a total of 166 to be tied in 17th place, and
Ethan Campbell was just behind them with a 167 total and T19th place finish.
The Women's team looks ahead for the Jack Ingram Fall Invitational in Misenheimer, North Carolina, with play opening on Monday, October 16th. While the Men's team is traveling to Farmville, VA for the VSGA Invitational with play opening Monday, October 16th.
