Southern Virginia University Women's Soccer Secures 2-0 Victory over Greensboro College

BUENA VISTA, VA — The Southern Virginia University Knights demonstrated their prowess on the soccer field as they clinched a hard-fought 2-0 victory against the Greensboro College Pride.

The first goal of the game came at the 29:17 mark when Southern Virginia's Tessa Miller netted her second goal of the season. The scoring play was set up beautifully by Makinna Winterton, who provided the crucial assist. Miller's clinical finish found the back of the net, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

The match remained tightly contested as both teams showcased their defensive capabilities. The Pride attempted to respond, but the Knights' resolute defense, led by goalkeeper Katrina Gardner, maintained their clean sheet.

In the 87th minute, the Knights delivered the final blow. Makinna Winterton, who had been influential throughout the match, showcased her scoring ability as she notched her 11th goal of the season. This time, the assist came courtesy of Madi Staples. Winterton's goal sealed the 2-0 victory for Southern Virginia University.

The Knights displayed exceptional teamwork, with their defensive line, consisting of Hailey Gadd and Annalise Huber, providing a formidable barrier against the Pride's advances. Southern Virginia's midfield orchestrated their play effectively, allowing them to maintain control of the game.

Southern Virginia hosts William Peace this Friday, October 20, in Knight Stadium for the final home game of the season. The Knights will honor their seniors following the game for the team's Senior Night.
