Misenheimer, NC - The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team battled fiercely in a thrilling season-ending match against the Falcons of Pfeiffer University, capping off their season with an 8-5-4 (2-3-2) record.
The Falcons wasted no time and took the lead with a goal just 24 seconds into the game, setting a high-intensity tone for the match.
However, the Knights were undeterred, embarking on an incredible offensive surge that saw them net three goals within a remarkable four-minute span. Gavin Young initiated the scoring frenzy with a brilliant solo shot. Only two minutes later, Trey Ricker found the back of the net, thanks to a fantastic assist from Jacob Cornejo and Benjamin Simister. Simister himself closed the offensive barrage with a goal, giving the Knights a commanding 3-1 lead.
Pfeiffer, though, was not ready to concede defeat. They promptly shifted the momentum of the game, launching an offensive onslaught with eight shots and two corners before the first half came to a close.
As the teams emerged from halftime, the Knights struggled to maintain their offensive pressure, while the Falcons continued to press their advantage. Pfeiffer managed to reduce the deficit by scoring in the 70th minute and then equalized the game in the 86th minute.
The hard-fought tie ensured that the Knights secured the sixth seed in the upcoming USA South Men's Soccer Playoffs. Their next challenge awaits, as they are set to face the #3 seeded William Peace University in Raleigh, NC, on Tuesday, October 31st, for the first round of the USA South Playoffs.Â
