STAUNTON, VA – The Southern Virginia University Women's Soccer team secured a decisive 4-0 victory over Mary Baldwin University, resulting in their fourth consecutive win of the season.
The match began with strong defensive efforts led by
Hailey Gadd,
Ella Thomas,
Annalise Huber, and
Paige Varvarigos. However, the Knights broke the deadlock at the 37:59-minute mark when
Makinna Winterton found the back of the net, netting her seventh goal of the season. Winterton's precise finish came after a brilliant assist from
Emmy Giles, who recorded her first career goal as a Knight.
The momentum continued in favor of Southern Virginia as
Emmy Giles added her name to the score sheet just before halftime, finding the net at the 44:58-minute mark.
Matia Murray provided the crucial assist, setting up Giles for her debut goal in the Knights' uniform.
As the second half commenced, Southern Virginia continued to apply pressure, with
Maybel Harris extending the lead at the 50:08-minute mark, marking her sixth goal of the season.
The final highlight of the match came in the 83rd minute when
Annalise Huber scored her first career goal as a Knight, capping off an impressive offensive performance.
This victory marks the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams, with the Knights now leading the series 4-1, and will look to extend their winning streak, taking on Brevard College in Knight Stadium on Saturday, October 7, at 1 p.m.
