GREENSBORO, NC - The Southern Virginia men's soccer team extends their streak with a win over the Pride of Greensboro College to rise to 1-0-1 in the USA South Conference.
The action-packed game saw some scoring early as both teams scored in the first 5 minutes.
Gavin Young was able to put the Knights on the board as he found his fourth goal of the season after a pass into the box from
Jacob Lee tied the game 1-1.
After the goal Greensboro picked up the pace, tallying four corner kicks in a row, and pushed the Knights in on defense until halftime.Â
Out of the half Southern Virginia showed renewed energy and pushed the ball on offense until they were able to capitalize off a corner kick where
Benjamin Simister took the lead for the Knights 2-1.
The last 30 minutes was a battle where the Knights emerged victorious after a great defensive effort from the team's defense as well as a great play from Keeper
Treyden Stringham who tallied three saves in the second half.
Southern Virginia put the game to bed when in the last 20 seconds
Tanner Gonder found the back of the net to end the game 3-1.
The Knights celebrated their first conference win and look forward to a home showdown on Saturday, October 7th where they take on the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan University with kick-off set for 4:00 PM.
