BUENA VISTA, VA - The Southern Virginia men's soccer team dropped a home contest against the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan University by a score of 1-3.
As the defending USA South champions, N.C. Wesleyan started strong, securing an early goal in the 10th minute of the game.
Throughout the first half, the Knights kept pace with the Bishop's offensive pressure, matching them in corner kicks with one and slightly trailing in shots with three to the Bishop's four.
In the second half, N.C Wesleyan extended their lead with goals in the 54th and 55th minutes to make it 3-0.
Southern Virginia demonstrated resilience by scoring in the 69th minute after N.C. Wesleyan's defense faltered, allowing
Benjamin Simister to capitalize and bring the score to 3-1.
Despite their efforts, the Knights were unable to close the gap further, as the Bishop's defense made five crucial saves in the second half, securing a final score of 3-1.
Looking ahead, Southern Virginia will continue conference play by traveling to Methodist University on Saturday, October 14, with kickoff scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
