Southern Virginia Men's Wrestling Win In Dominant Fashion Over Patriots

BUENA VISTA, VA - The Southern Virginia University men's wrestling team faced off against Patrick Henry Community College, and took away a dominate win by a score of 48-7.

The action kicked off in the 125-pound category with Quinn Richards.Richards who secured an early single-lead takedown, but was countered by an immediate escape. The second round also saw a back-and-forth struggle, with both wrestlers earning takedowns and escapes, resulting in a 4-4 tie. In the third period, Richards chose the bottom position, securing a quick escape to take the lead. Despite a late takedown by Richards, he was reversed in the final moments, ultimately falling 9-10.

In the 133-pound category, John Carlson faced an early takedown and a 4-point near fall. Choosing the bottom position in the second period, Carlson struggled to find an escape. In the third period, Carlson started on top, but the Patriots earned an escape, concluding the match with a score of 1-8 in favor of Patrick Henry.

Moving on to the 141-pound category, Porter Kinne got an early takedown and maintained pressure, securing a win by fall with 34 seconds left in the round, putting the Knights on the scoreboard.

At 149 pounds, Weston Hirschi faced an early takedown, Hirschi found a quick escape but fell behind 6-1. Despite the setback, Hirschi displayed incredible spirit, scoring an immediate takedown and a 3-point near fall. He ultimately secured the win by fall.

In the 157-pound category, Lucas Rogers started the match with a 3-point takedown, followed by another takedown and a pin before the end of the first round, allowing the Knights to lead 18-7 at halftime.

At 165 pounds, William Haight secured an early takedown and won by fall in the first minute of the match.

In the 174-pound category, Tyson Hoopes fought hard, earning a takedown and securing a win by fall in the last minute of the round.

Carson Hyde in the 184-pound category won by forfeit, contributing to the Knights' overall score.

In the 197-pound category, Loyal Holm dominated with a 5-0 lead after the first round. Holm extended his lead to 6-0 after stalling and running points. Holm showcased resilience by battling for a takedown for a late second-round pin,

In the 285-pound category, Weston Memmott wasted no time, securing a 3-point takedown. Memmot continued with dominant exchanges, earning another takedown and a quick fall for the finish.

The Knights took the dominant victory by a score of 48-7 and spring back into action on Saturday, November 18th at 1:00 pm where they travel to Collegeville, PA for a duel against Ursinus College for the first ever meeting between the programs.
