Southern Virginia Women's Basketball Triumph in Hard-Fought Battle Over Methodist

Buena Vista, VA - In a closely contested matchup against conference rival Methodist University, the Southern Virginia Women's basketball team secured a hard-fought victory with a final score of 62-58.

This marked the fourth encounter between the two teams, and Southern Virginia extended their dominance with a 4-1 overall record and a flawless 3-0 home record. Despite the win, it was their narrowest margin of victory in their head-to-head history.

The game unfolded with a tightly contested first half, leaving the Knights with a slim 8-4 lead. However, they gained momentum in the second quarter, fueled by layups from Addison Newman, Ruth Kempler, and Abigail Snyder, pushing them to a 14-4 advantage.

Although Southern Virginia controlled the game, they struggled to put it out of reach, allowing the Monarchs to stay within striking distance. The Knights managed to extend their lead to 42-28 by the midpoint of the third quarter. Still, the Monarchs fought back, narrowing the gap to 51-43 as they entered the final quarter.

Methodist displayed aggressiveness in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to as close as three points. However, Southern Virginia's trio of Newman, Snyder, and Maria Savvun stepped up, with Savvun sinking crucial free throws to secure the win.

Despite the victory, the Knights face little respite as they prepare to host another USA South foe, William Peace University, on Saturday, November 18th, at 2:00 PM in Knight Arena.

Methodist's resilience was evident in their ability to stay in the fight, capitalizing on 21 points off turnovers and 13 second-chance points.
