BUENA VISTA, VA - In a conference showdown, the Southern Virginia women's basketball team secured a decisive 61-39 victory at home against the William Peace University Pacers.
The Knights took control early in the first quarter, establishing a substantial lead with consecutive layups from Ruth Kempler. As the first quarter concluded, Southern Virginia held a 13-6 advantage.
The Pacers mounted a comeback in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 2 points. However, the Knights responded swiftly, regaining a double-digit lead with jumpers from Alyssa Weiland and Addison Newman. Despite a surge from the Pacers, who hit three three-pointers in two minutes, Southern Virginia maintained a 28-25 lead at halftime.
After the break, both teams engaged in rapid exchanges, but the Knights, capitalizing on transition opportunities, extended their lead to 10 points at 40-30 heading into the fourth quarter.
Southern Virginia dominated the final quarter, outscoring the Pacers 21-7. Abigail Snyder, Lilly Kenter, and Maria Savvun contributed crucial three-pointers, sealing the victory at 61-39.
The Knights showcased their prowess with 14 second-chance points and 38 points in the paint, underscoring their dominance in the matchup.
Looking ahead, Southern Virginia will continue their home stand against Mary Washington on Tuesday, November 28th, at 6:00 PM.
