WINCHESTER, Va- On Saturday, the Southern Virginia University Men's Wrestling team competed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships, hosted by Shenandoah University. The Knights finished in sixth place as a team, with eight wrestlers in the top six of their respective weight classes.
  Elijah Blackwell continued his impressive season as he concluded the tournament with a second-place finish. The sophomore wrestler lost a close final match to Hai Siu from Averett, a former All-American, and ranked sixth in the nation at 149 pounds.
Jaden Markus had a solid tournament and placed fourth at 197 pounds. In the 125-pound class, Jaden Nelson won a convincing 18-4 victory over JaJuan Givens of Greensboro College to secure the fifth-place spot.
Sawyer Ferry, Weston Hirschi, Tyson Hoopes, Morgan Peterson, and Porter Trapp all finished sixth in their respective weight classes.
Coach Hoopes on the upcoming Regional Championships; "We are focused on regionals and hoping we can peak at the right time. We have several wrestlers who I believe have a legit shot at reaching the NCAA Championships."
The Knights are looking forward to competing in the Southeast Regional Championships on Feb. 24-25. The event will be hosted in York, PA.
