DELAWARE, OH. — Southern Virginia University's men's lacrosse team fell to Ohio Wesleyan University in a close matchup on Wednesday night at home, with a final score of 8-9.
The Knights had a strong start, with
Jon Yandow scoring two goals in the first period to tie the game 2-2. The second period belonged to Southern Virginia, as
Gabe King scored three consecutive goals, and
Clay Haacke added another to put the Knights up 7-3 at halftime.
However, Ohio Wesleyan fought back in the second half, with Will Siegenthaler scoring his second goal in the third period to narrow the Knights' lead. Garrett Smith and Spencer Amacher each added a goal to tie the game at 7-7 heading into the fourth period.
The Battling Bishops took the lead early in the final period with a goal by Carson Geier, and despite the Knights' efforts to tie the game,
Davis Grant's goal in the last minutes of the game was not enough to avoid defeat.
Southern Virginia had a solid performance from
Gabe King, who led the team with four goals.
Jon Yandow also contributed with four points off two goals and two assists. The Knights' goalie,
Caleb Brodie, had an impressive game with 17 saves.
The Knights will look to bounce back in their next game, a non-conference matchup against Huntingdon College, on Saturday, March 25th, returning home to Knight Stadium.
