BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team continued its success with an action-filled match against the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University.
The game kicked off with a bang at the seventh-minute mark when
Ammon Lewis netted a Penalty Kick Goal, putting the Knights ahead early on.
Southern Virginia kept looking for opportunities to score and was able to capitalize on a corner when
Luke Hemenway delivered a memorable moment in the 38th minute by scoring a brilliant header off a corner kick.
Trey Ricker's precision with the corner was met by Hemenway's perfectly timed leap making it 2-0 for Southern Virginia.
In the second half, the Knights continued to make opportunities when
Ammon Lewis struck again in the 65th minute for his second goal of the game, this time assisted by
Gavin Young. to take a 3-0 lead.
The Royals started to put more pressure on the ball, took advantage in shots and corners in the second half, and looked for some late efforts making the score 3-2, but the Knights held strong and secured a well-deserved victory.
The Knights celebrated their second consecutive win and look forward to another home showdown on Saturday, September 16th where they take on the Saints of Marymount University with kick-off set for 6:00 PM.
