BUENA VISTA, VA — In a hard-fought battle against the 12th-ranked team in the nation, Randolph-Macon College, the Southern Virginia University Football team faced a challenging test in week three of their season, falling to the Yellow Jackets 10-51.
The game kicked off with a strong opening drive by Randolph-Macon, resulting in a 1-yard touchdown run by Kwesi Clarke, followed by a successful extra point by Kyle Ihle. The Knights' defense fought valiantly, but the Yellow Jackets scored again in the first quarter with Clarke's 3-yard touchdown run.
Southern Virginia began to find their rhythm in the second quarter, with
Lachlan Haacke running for a 7-yard touchdown and
Jarom Reed's extra point bringing the score to 7-17. However, Randolph-Macon responded quickly with a stunning 65-yard touchdown pass from Drew Campanale to David Wallis, extending their lead.
The Knights faced a determined Randolph-Macon offense in the third quarter, surrendering touchdowns to Mitchell Johnson and Nick Hale. Despite the challenges, the Southern Virginia University Football team continued to display their fighting spirit.
In the fourth quarter,
Jarom Reed secured a 43-yard field goal for the Knights, contributing to their final score of 10 points. However, Randolph-Macon College continued to exert pressure, with Cameron Chatmon's 44-yard touchdown run sealing the victory for the Yellow Jackets.
Following the game, Head Coach Joe Dupaix stated, "While the scoreboard may not reflect the desired outcome, I am incredibly proud of our team's effort today. We faced a formidable opponent, and our players gave it their all. We will continue to work hard, learn from this experience, and look forward to our next challenge."
The Knights will look to next week, opening conference play against Methodist University on the road on Saturday, September 23. Kick-off is slated for 1 pm.
