SWANNANOA, NC - The Southern Virginia University Men's Soccer team continued their dominance with a 5-0 win over the Owls of Warren Wilson.
This was the first-ever matchup between the programs, and the Knights wasted no time and scored right away in the third minute of the game, where
Benjamin Simister found the back of the net with an assist from
Jacob Cornejo.
Southern Virginia continued to push the pace when
Brandon Victory shot one through the gap off a pass from
Ammon Lewis to send the Knights into the half up 2-0.
During a feisty second half, Southern Virginia was able to take control of the game right away in the 51st minute with Benajmin Simister's second goal of the game rang home to take a sizable 3-0 lead.
Zach Bartholomew was able to score his second goal of the season as he was able to line up a header off a long pass from
Porter Whitlock past to goalie's reach to make it 4-0.
The Knights then put the game to bed when
Tad Tafelelmar was able to rebound the ball off a free kick and dribble past the Owl's defense to find the top of the net to finish the game for the team. .
Southern Virginia held a 15-5 advantage in total shots as well as a 4-0 lead in corners
This win marks the fourth consecutive win for the Knights, and they look to continue that momentum when they play Friday, September 22nd against Piedmont University in Demorest, Georgia with kick-off set for 3:00 PM.
