BUENA VISTA, VA - The Southern Virginia men's soccer team won in convincing fashion and wrapped up non-conference play 10-2, for the team's highest-scoring game since joining Division III Athletics against the Bison of Gallaudet University.
Benjamin Simister got the Knights on the board first with his goal in the 2nd-minute mark on a pass from
Brandon Victory for his seventh goal of the season.
The Knights continued to build a lead when
Gavin Young found the back of the net off a pass from
Zach Bartholomew for a 2-0 lead.
Southern Virginia scored again just five minutes later when
Benjamin Simister scored his eighth goal in six games which was assisted by
Gavin Young.
The Knights wrapped up the first half with 2 goals within 39 seconds when
Ammon Lewis and
Gavin Young both capitalized on key breakaways to find open looks and send the game into half 5-1.
Out of the half, Southern Virginia kept putting pressure on the Bison defense and scored again this time off a free kick where a precise shot from
Brock Hester put Gallaudet behind 6-2.
A final barrage of goals put the game to bed as
Thomas McPoyle,
Tanner Gonder,
Dante Leguizamon, and
Chase Gray all scored to end the game 10-2.
The Knights look to start conference play as they travel to take on the Tornados of Brevard College on Saturday, September 30th with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 PM.
